Sun Valley Idaho Trip- Jan 31-Feb 6, 2026

Sun Valley Recap

North Penn Ski Club had 37 participants for the 2026 Western Carnival at Sun Valley.  The sky was sunny and the slopes were fast!  No new powder but plenty of manmade snow to make conditions tolerable.  Everyone enjoyed the beauty and history of the Sun Valley Resort and the beauty of the surrounding mountains and the town of Ketchum.  The slopes , both Baldy and Dollar Mountain, were enjoyed by all.  The hot tub and pool were a big hit as well. Many enjoyed a luncheon at the historic Roundhouse Restaurant, midway up Baldy Mountain.  North Penn took second place in the race with our #1 team.  The #2 team disqualified.  The Gala was held at the Sun Valley Nordic Club, aka the Golf Club, which was an excellent venue and possibly the best Gala food ever!  Our very own Bill Bracy won the prize for best male costume with his “Chunk Norris” costume!  Stu Gillard staged and took our group photo.  We had some luggage issues, especially on the return trip, but ultimately everyone got their belongings some a day or two late.

Grindelwald Ski Trip February 26- Mar 7 2026

Visiting Lucerne, Skiing in Jungfrau region, visiting Schilthorn of James Bond 007 fame and Curling one night

Grindelwald Switzerland 2026 Trip Report-

On February 26, 2026 21 skiers and snowboarders left Philadelphia and landed in Zurich. We took a bus to the Continental Park Hotel in Lucerne which was very nice and conveniently located short walking distances from the lake and the famous wooden bridge and waterfront shops and restaurants.  Many enjoyed walking tours and visiting museums during our day here. Saturday morning, we again boarded the bus and spent a leisurely 2.5 hours driving through the beautiful Swiss alps to Grindelwald. The scenery was spectacular and our bus driver stopped at a perfect point to get out and take selfies with the incredible views. Upon arriving at the beautiful Hotel Schweizerhof we set about exploring the village and taking in the incredible views. That evening we enjoyed the welcome reception outside on the patio followed by a four-course dinner in the dining room.  We had dinner four nights at the hotel and two nights on our own. Many of our group enjoyed dining at Barry's in Grindelwald on Monday night.  Skiing the first day was challenging as there was heavy fog, but the rest of the week was blue bird conditions with a bright blue sky and plenty of sunshine.  Some of us hired guides to take us all over the area. Everyone enjoyed the views from all areas and many lovely lunches at the top of the ski areas. We all managed to navigate the various trains and cable cars to reach the ski lifts or to visit various attractions in the area like the Top of Europe Jungfrau, ice caves, town of Interlocken. The two highlights of the trip were the trip for lunch at the Piz Gloria restaurant that revolved and gave a 360 degree view of the alps and our night of curling which was so much fun and provided so many laughs. It was a truly memorable trip!!
